Watch: Reagan lies in state > LIVE NOW

At the moment, CNN's top live video feed is former President Ronald Reagan, lying in state. This seriously angers me. Aside from the facts that I am not sad that he is dead (I believe he was a truly evil man). Despite that, I believe that now that he is dead he should be allowed to rest in peace. And there is the Republican Media Machine, turning it into a circus.
These are the same people who lambasted the Democrats for turning Paul Wellstone's public memorial service into a, "complete, total, absolute sham".[1] These are the people who said that, "[t]his was not a memorial service for Paul Wellstone, it was not," and, "there was nothing sacred about last night at all, unless the only thing sacred to these people was the advancement of their own careers," and that, "it was a planted audience."[2] These are the same people who claimed that Wellstone's memorial was, "hijacked by partisan zealots and turned into a political rally."[3] I could go on, but chapter 25 of Lies and the Lying Liars Who Tell Them[4] does a much better job of it.
I do not believe in voting "against" a political candidate. When I vote for a candidate it is because I prefer that candidate take the office. When do not like any of the candidates then I abstain from casting a vote. One could argue that is a wasted vote; I would argue that I can honestly say that I did not vote for a candidate I did not want in office. It is a matter of principle.
But, right now, I am about >< close to jumping on the Kerry is my Hamster bandwagon. I don't like Kerry. I truly wish that Dean had not been railroaded out of the race by the Republican Media Machine. But the fact is that Republican politicians and the media giants that back them have no principles whatsoever. Yes, I think I would vote for a hamster if it would get a Republican out of office.

Small edit: You can find the full, televised video of Wellstone's memorial at http://shows.implex.tv/Wellstone/ to see just how true (not!) the statements in footnotes 1, 2 and 3 really are.
Second edit: fixed spelling error. Sorry. I work for a guy named Regan, pronounced the same way. Actually, its Ragon. Have I mentioned that I'm a terrible speller?
Also fixed another spelling error.

Date: 2004-06-11 09:16 am (UTC)I'm with you there, I'll vote for Kerry because the alternative is unthinkable. Considering that he's been restained by re-election concerns, the evil that Shrub will do another term makes my mind boggle. I really miss Dean though, the good news is that his grassroots efforts are really paying off. I'd be happy to have him re-run in '08 or 12.
